OPP  Half Load In Effect

Elgin County, ON - The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to ensure the motoring public is aware that half load season is in effect throughout the County of Elgin.

Half load restrictions are put in place to protect Elgin County roads from sustaining permanent damage due to heavy loads. The roadways throughout the County are more susceptible to heavy load damage during the spring thaw.

Passenger vehicles are exempt from this restriction on the use of roadways.

The Elgin County OPP along with the Aylmer Police Service, Ministry of Transportation Ontario (MTO), and the OPP's Highway Safety Division will work in partnership over the next couple months concluding on April 30th, 2019.

The half load restrictions will end on the 30th of April 2019 within Elgin County. Elgin County OPP traffic management officers and other commerci al motor vehicle enforcement trained officers will be assisting with the half load season.

There is no anticipated impact on passenger vehicles within Elgin County.

Commercial vehicles are restricted to 5 tonnes per axel during the half load season.

Commercial vehicles as asked to plan ahead with confirming travel routes and to obey all road restriction signage.
