August 27th, 2019 - "A duet of new works: "Smarty Pants" and "Our House" in free
public readings are included as part of PSFT's new expanded Playwright's Festival."
The Port Stanley Festival Theatre is pleased to be holding its eighth annual Playwright's
Festival on Friday September 13th and Saturday September 14th with public readings
of both "Smarty Pants" (September 13th, 8PM), a new comedy by the playwrighting
team of Shelley Hoffman and Stephen Sparks, and "Our House" (September 14th, 8PM),
a new comedy by, newcomer, Murray Furrow.
Actors Jeff Dingle ("Book Club"/"Giving up the Ghost"), Sarah Machin Gale ("Halfway
There"/"Lunenburg"), and William Vickers ("It's Your Funeral") are all confirmed
to take part in this year's Festival.
Following two days of rehearsal, both plays will be presented as public readings
followed by a question/answer session with the playwrights and invited audience
feedback, hosted by Artistic Director Simon Joynes.
The Port Stanley Playwright's Festival is part of the Port Stanley Festival Theatre's
established play development program, which has in the past produced premiere productions
of: "Not in My Backyard" in 2013, "Bingo Ladies" in 2014, "Birds of a Feather" and
"The Birds and the Bees" in 2016, "Five Alarm" in 2017, "Buying the Farm" in 2018,
and "Giving up the Ghost" in 2019.
Admission is free of charge with donations accepted at the door, but seats should
be reserved at the box office.
