The "Book Club" by playwright Kristen Da Silva is a fast-paced comedy that comes complete
with a constant flow of great one-liners that keeps the audience in tears. What really happens
when you put together three single men and three single women to talk about books turns out
to be an evening of lonely hearts tired of the single life willing to gamble everything on a
spinning roulette of love.
Excellent performances by Tracey Beltrano as Annie, a women engaged to be married, but
still impatiently waiting for that special date, Jeff Dingle as Hossler, he just got dumped and needs
to be pointed in the right direction, Josh Johnston as Brad, he's in love and needs a little
push to find out with who, some say he's gay, Brittany Kay as Julia, a little
rusted, but all that can be fixed, Franny McCabe-Bennett as Eileen, ready to break free
for the right match, and Iain Stewart as Josh, the player that almost falls flat. Together they
form an interesting and rather unusual mix of characters, that will keep you second guessing
whether love will find a way.
The conclusion to today's performance was from an satisfied audience brought to it's feet
for a standing ovation to deliver the message of a job well done. Credit must be given to the
cast of "Book Club" for their hilarious glimpse of single life, and to Liz Gilroy's sense of
timing which directed this production into perfect delivery. Credit also goes to Jory Mclean
as stage manager, Erin Cunningham as apprentice assistant stage manager, Josh Quinlan for set design, Karen Crichton
for the lighting design, Alex Amini for costume design, and a special thanks goes
out to Port Stanley's Russell House as show sponsor.
"Book Club" runs from July 25th to August 18th, 2018, and it's a show that you
will want to remember for tips the next time your looking for love!
