Long Point Basin Land Trust
Creatures of the Night

Norfolk County, ON, July 19, 2019 – Join the Long Point Basin Land Trust for a free event on Friday, July 19th at Stead Family Scientific Reserve.

Join Long Point Basin Land Trust at Stead Family Scientific Reserve to see and learn about some of the magnificent creatures of the night. We will begin the evening by listening for the majestic sounds of the Eastern Whip-Poor-Will. Since it is just after a full moon, the adults may be foraging the entire night for insects to feed to their nestlings.

After, an opportunity to see how moths are lured using traps and other attractants will be provided. This will allow participants to observe some of the different varieties of moths in the area up close, and to learn about these often overlooked insects and their important role in nature.

Adam Timpf is a local biologist whose farm is one of the neighbouring properties to the Stead Family Scientific Reserve. Peter Carson and Mary Gartshore have been studying local moth species for quite a few years.
