Special weather statement in effect for:

  • St. John's and vicinity

Total rainfall 25 to 50 mm expected this evening into early Friday. Higher amounts are possible in some areas.

A significant rain event is expected over parts of Newfoundland and the Labrador Straits, beginning this evening. The rain will likely be heavy at times, and is forecast to continue through Thursday night before tapering to showers on Friday. There is a high degree of uncertainty regarding the location of the highest rainfall rates at this time. However, heavy downpours may contribute to totals in excess of 50 mm over some locations, giving localized flooding.

Environment Canada meteorologists will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as new information becomes available.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weathernlwo.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #NLwx.
