Fredericton, NB Current Conditions - FREEZING RAIN WARNING IN EFFECT, Fredericton

X

Alerts for: Fredericton and Southern York County

Warnings

4:43 AM AST Wednesday 21 February 2018
Freezing rain warning in effect for:

  • Fredericton and Southern York County

Ice build-up due to freezing rain is expected or occurring.

An extended period of freezing rain is impacting much of New Brunswick this morning.

A trough of low pressure extending from Quebec is giving rain to southwestern sections and freezing rain or freezing drizzle to the rest of the province. Later this morning, the trough will move north of the province allowing temperatures to rise well above the freezing mark changing the precipitation to rain or drizzle before ending in the evening.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.

Freezing rain warnings are issued when rain falling in sub-zero temperatures creates ice build-up and icy surfaces.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weatheraspc.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #NBStorm.

Statements

4:44 AM AST Wednesday 21 February 2018
Special weather statement in effect for:

  • Fredericton and Southern York County

A warm front moving through the region will produce unseasonably mild temperatures across the Maritimes today; however, relief from seasonal temperatures will be short lived...

A cold front is expected to descend over the region this evening beginning in northwestern New Brunswick and tracking southeastward to lie south of New Brunswick by early Thursday morning. Behind this cold front temperatures will fall well below freezing which may lead to rapid freezing and the risk of black ice on untreated surfaces.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to ec.weatheraspc.ec@canada.ca or tweet reports using #NBStorm.
